Calling all Girl Up supporters in the Greater Boston area! Join the Boston Coalition to connect, exchange ideas and work together to advance the Girl Up mission. Each year we host an annual Greater Boston Summit for all current Girl Up club members, as well as students new to Girl Up. If you are a new Girl Up Club in the area, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to our email list, and join the "Girl Up: Boston Coalition" Facebook group for more updates on Coalition-wide events nearby. You can also check out our Instagram (girlupbostoncoalition) and Facebook Page!
Being a part of the Boston Coalition Executive Board is a unique opportunity for girls in the New England area to step up as leaders. Board members will learn key skills such as how to plan an event, how to advocate, and how to fundraise. Board members are the leading members of the Coalition, and will influence everything that the coalition does. E-Board members will also have unique opportunities to represent Girl Up at local events, last year many Board members got to attend the Mass Women's Conference, and will have the option to be featured as speakers at the Coalition Summit. Being a member of the Coalition Executive Board is also a great thing to feature on your college application. Apply now: https://forms.gle/oTKRy1UKwiqKiHWd9
I am very excited to kick-off the 2017-2018 school year as the Girl Up Greater Boston Coalition! In case you are new to the Coalition, my name is Kiera Fair, and I am the President of the Girl Up Boston Coalition. I am the primary point of contact for all club and campus leaders in the Greater Boston area, so please let me know if there is anything I can do for you. I am happy to answer any questions that you may have, and support your involvement in Girl Up!
You can get involved by joining the Boston Coalition, and I, in attending an in-district meeting with one of Senator Warren's staff members to discuss this important legislation. Although I know we would all like to meet with the Senator, it's always a possibly that she could stop in to the meeting.
Whether you have never advocated before, or you just got back from storming Capitol Hill, you can get involved in this meeting. I encourage everyone to attend, and even if you are unable, please spread the word to your club members.
The meeting will be on Monday, August 28th, at 11:30am, in Senator Warren's Boston Office, 2400 JFK Federal Building 15 New Sudbury Street Boston, MA 02203. The meeting will likely only be half an hour, so if anyone is interested, we can walk to Faneuil Hall together and get lunch after the meeting!
If you would like to attend, please fill out this survey ASAP to RSVP! Everyone is welcome, and I will send everyone who fills out the form all of the information that you need to feel prepared for the meaning. If you have any concerns or doubts, please email me at email@example.com. I promise that in-district meetings are not that scary!
The Boston Coalition 5K is happening on Saturday, May 20th! We will be meeting at 9am at the Pope John Paul II Park (the same location as last year).
This year, we will be running to support the UNFPA program in Guatemala. Girl Up has a goal of raising $40,000, which would send 800 girls to school! We need to help them reach their goal! Last year, the Boston Coalition raised over $1,600 for girls in India, and this year our goal is to raise $2,000! That would send 40 girls to an educational program that would help them prevent teen pregnancy and child marriage.
Please sign up to run with the Coalition, and help us reach our goal! Even if you can't make it to our run, don't worry! You can still sign up and fundraise for our team, and then run it on your own time.
